Icon and image buttons can be added to dashboards on your workspace.
Buttons can be used to help your members navigate both in and out of your workspace.
For starter guidance on dashboards and buttons, please see this guide: Using dashboards and icon buttons to link to workspace items
In this guide, we'll show you what buttons can do on your workspace:
- First add the button to your dashboard. In the top right of the folder you want to add the button, select the four-squares icon at the top right of the page. Or, from the Actions menu, select 'Configure folder/workspace dashboard'
- You will then see the option to 'Add item', click this in the section and column where you want to create the button - This can be moved afterwards using drag and drop.
- Once you clicked 'Add item' you will see the list of items you can add to your dashboard, to add a button, select 'Icon Button' or 'Image button' from the list
When you had added a icon or image button to a dashboard, it will allow you to edit the settings of the button.
The most important setting is the 'Link to' and 'Action' options. This decides what the button does.
There are three option under 'Link to':
- 'A workspace item' - this links the button to an existing workspace item. This can be anything on the workspace such as a document, folder, forum etc. Click 'Select link target' to choose the item.
- 'A specific web address' - provides a text box where you can put in a URL to link the button to. This can be any URL and is useful for linking to pages outside of Futures or to items in other workspaces. This can also be used to direct the user to a specific email address. Type 'mailto:' followed by the email you want the button to direct users to email.
- 'None' - this links the button to nothing. This is allows you to use buttons as headers or sub-headers or for any other purpose on your dashboard.
There are multiple options under 'Action' which relates to the item it is linking to. We highly recommend if it is a folder to keep it to the default settings 'View folder'. The button will then take the user to the folder.
