Sharing video

There are several options when sharing video on Futures.

Link to existing videos

Use this option if you want to share the video on your Futures workspace but do not want to host it on a video streaming service. You will be able to collect some data on views and downloads. The playback quality may be reduced. Use the mp4 file format.

If you have not done so already, upload the video to a suitable folder in your workspace:

  1. Navigate to the folder and select 'Create a new item' then choose 'Upload a document'.
  2. Click 'Choose files' then locate and select the video on your computer. Click 'Upload'. This may take some time depending on the quality and length of the video as well as the quality of your internet connection.
  3. Save when the upload is complete.

The video will be available for viewing on the document page and can be linked to dashboards within your workspace. To link this video to a workspace or folder dashboard:

  1. From the Actions menu select 'Configure folder/workspace dashboard' (or click the four-squared icon at the top of the page.)
  2. Click 'Add item' and select 'Video - Existing document'.
  3. In the edit panel, select your video and add a title and description if appropriate.
  4. Close the edit panel and save.

Users with access will be able to view and download the video. For more help on permission settings please see: Permissions on Futures and how to set them

YouTube or Vimeo

For detailed analytics and better video quality, use YouTube or Vimeo:

  1. From the Actions menu select 'Configure folder/workspace dashboard' (or click the four-squared icon at the top of the page).
  2. Click 'Add item' and select 'Video - YouTube'.
  3. In the edit panel, paste the YouTube URL, add a title and description, adjust display settings, and save.

Note: Unlisted YouTube videos can be shared via URL but won't appear in YouTube searches. If you host the video on your own channel you will have access to the improved analytics.

Direct upload to a dashboard

This option comes with less flexibility and analytics but to quickly add a video from your computer to your workspace or folder dashboard:

  1. From the Actions menu, select 'Configure folder/workspace dashboard' (or click the four-squared icon at the top of the page.
  2. Click 'Add item' and select 'Video - Upload'.
  3. Click 'Choose files' then locate and select the video on your computer. Click 'Upload'. This may take some time depending on the quality and length of the video as well as the quality of your internet connection. Please wait until it is complete before the next step.
  4. Close the edit panel and save.

If possible we would recommend uploading the video as a document and link to existing video rather than using this option.
